Course description: This course covers following topics: 1. introduction; 2. novella: genre and modernity in the 19th century; 3.theory of novella in the 19th century; 4.-5. Goethes Novella; 6-7. H. von Kleists novella; 8-9. romantic novella; 10-11. novella and Biedermeier; 11-12. novella in realism: T. Fontane i C. F. Meyer; 13-14. novella and naturalism.

Learning outcomes: Students will be able to recognize main development tendencies and the meaning of novella in the development of narrative forms.

Teaching methods: teacher-led demonstrations in the classroom, presentations, classroom discussion
